The weird way the government classified the metro only has 1.1 m people. But there is actually closer to 1.6 million people in Central AL.

Yeah, it is weird. The feds classified Tuscaloosa, Talladega, Anniston and Jasper as their own metro. But Birmingham is still the hub for those communities. For comparison, Nashville claims 14 counties. If Bham had that coverage, they would have similar populations.
