It’s funny you say that. My family drove through Birmingham and Montgomery going down to Florida last week and all three cars independently had a conversation about how Birmingham seemed a lot bigger than they realized or remembered. It feels like a major city. That whole stretch was a lot more developed than I remembered it being.

Yeah, it is weird. The feds classified Tuscaloosa, Talladega, Anniston and Jasper as their own metro. But Birmingham is still the hub for those communities. For comparison, Nashville claims 14 counties. If Bham had that coverage, they would have similar populations.
