It wasn't that trail, but a similar portion on the Grinell Glacier Trail where a few years ago a guy and his daughter were mauled by Grizzly. Both of them had to jump off the cliff to a ledge below to avoid being eaten alive. And the father (after listening to his daughter being attacked) had to make a second leap of faith after the bear climbed down and attacked him again.
Thankfully they survived. You can read, or watch videos, of their terrifying account online. I'm glad I read about that attack after I visited GNP, otherwise I might not have gone. Or I might not have done the Grinell Glacier hike, which is one of the best hikes I have ever done.
