There is no decrease in patients at area hospitals. On the contrary, most general community hospitals are full. Many are on divert due to lack of capacity (beds) and/or capability (staffing). I am not aware of any hospitals that have cut or laid off direct patient care nurses, whether critical care or floor nurses. More of those nurses are needed. Because many facilities have had to cut the elective surgery schedules, there are possibly OR nurses and ancillary staff that have had hours cut. But most certainly not in the direct patient care areas.
