quote:A horrible misunderstanding and/or misinterpretation of statistics.quote:Statistically youre better off without the vaccine
In 2018, there were 33 cases of wild polio and 104 cases of vaccine-derived polio.
In 2019 there were 175 cases of wild polio and 364 cases of vaccine-derived polio.
The More You Know
When we are close to eradicating a disease, of course the extremely rare vaccine-derived illnesses will outnumber the "wild" cases. The correct interpretation of the statistics is in 1988, 350,000 people worldwide contracted polio, or 1 in 15,000 of the global population. This year fewer than 1,000 will contract polio, or less than 1 in 7 million. Statistically we are about 500 times better off with the vaccine.
