One of our door sensors is either not registering that the door is closed or signals that the door is being opened (which was not fricking fun for the heart at 2:30am). It’s about 25% of the time. We’re going out of town this weekend and don’t want to leave without being able to set the alarm. I pulled the hardwired magnet out of the door jam and the wires look like they’re solidly connected. I thought pulling it out fixed it but then about 10 minutes later it chimes like it was being opened and then it wouldn’t register as closed until I pulled it out and pushed it back in. Any ideas?

The guy who installed the alarm when we built wants to charge $90 just to come out and then possible sensor replacement. Just not sure if there’s anything I can do to fix it 100% myself. He says it’s because in the extreme heat, the sensors can move but that doesn’t seem right to me. There’s no way the house would shift to move the sensors more than 1/8 of an inch and that seems like a huge movement, and are the sensors that sensitive that a slight shift would cause them to be out alignment?

Take the other part out of the door and just stick it right on the sensor. If it keeps happening you have a wiring problem. If not, it’s positioning

I had one acting similar to this. I ended up pulling the sensor out of the frame and wiring a new sensor in. Works perfectly now. I ordered the replacement sensor from amazon. Took maybe 5 minutes to change. It was on an entry door into the garage from outside and when the garage was open the door would slam shut from the draft going through, it happened pretty often. I’m guessing that’s what caused it to happen but maybe not.

We have a similar ongoing issue with one of our doors and a wireless door sensor
I figure the battery is just getting weak
But, I’m not sure how to replace the battery, it looks sealed

This is Frontpoint

There is usually a little tab to press in that will pop the cover off. Make sure to call your alarm monitoring company and let them know what you are doing as the wireless sensor has a tamper switch built into it that will put the system into alarm when you pop the cover off.

I’d just replace the sensor and make sure it is lined up exactly with the magnet. Is this a surface mounted contact or in the door frame itself?

In the meantime, if you can’t get a new sensor before you go out of town, just pull the wire out, strip them and twist together. The door will be bypassed but if you have a motion sensor should be covered in case of a break in.

Was just coming to post about the twisting the wires together.

They are indeed surface mounted. I took them both out and was able to get spotty performance out of them. I cut the wires in order to start fresh but it seems to me that the sensor is messed up internally. I can put the wires together and then take them apart and get the chime everytime, so this lets me know it's not some issue with wiring in the wall. I'm going to run by lowes and see if they sell them, but I coudln't find them online, so I'm not getting my hopes up. If they don't have any, I'll just twist the wires together, padlock the garage door on the inside and leave it to my motion sensor to handle the rest.

Thanks everyone for the input.
