My son is 1.5.
I don't expect him to really care where we are, but I do plan for him to be a toddler, so I don't schedule adventure travel or Oktoberfest with him. Or otherwise 20 things in a day. That isn't happening.
I think the nature trips are good. You're not really missing much if they are being terrible, and can set off at whatever time whenever it's daylight and they are good to go.
