What amazes me is that the number of cases we have today is likely the same amount we had in March. The only difference is that we have the testing capacity now to prove it.

Exactly. That is why they are now finding out that New York has damn near reached herd immunity.
There were a few million people shuffling around NYC spreading this virus everywhere for 2-3 months, and the only ones who knew it were the very ill who got tested.
