3cm of collarbone was removed Thursday. Tomorrow they remove part of left heel under Achilles tendon

A lot depends on your friends personal health, but, the question about osteomyelitis in general, yeah, it isn’t something to play around with.

Very.

When you have bone infection your options are either 6 weeks of IV antibiotics (minimum) or often times removal of the infected bone

As someone who has to perform such procedures quite often, this not good.

Usually if you're resecting part of the calcaneus it means there is some compromised blood flow which caused the wound/infection in the first place. This can make it VERY difficult to heal any wound there.

Obviously I know nothing of this particular situation. However long term prognosis (for the limb in question) of someone who has to have a partial calcanectomy due to osteomyelitis is not good.

I was in the hospital for a week with IV antibiotics and then 6 weeks on some oral antibiotic after being released.

It almost killed me. 2 weeks in the hospital and many more months with a pic line in my chest. Goodluck
