The First American Volunteer Group (AVG) of the Republic of China Air Force in 1941–1942, nicknamed the Flying Tigers, was composed of pilots from the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC), Navy (USN), and Marine Corps (USMC), recruited under President Franklin Roosevelt's authority before Pearl Harbor and commanded by Claire Lee Chennault.
It is hard to believe where we were with them and where we are now

Chennault was a product of LSU's ROTC program.
"Tigers?"
"Flying Tigers!"
Something he has in common with Ace Midnight.

We were also with the Russians and Saddam at times. Not to mention Obama and McCain blowing ISIS and Iran.

Chennault later lived in Louisiana, some in Monroe,La. I went to Northeast a few years in 70,71,72 with his grandson. We were in a frat together. He was a good guy.

The Chinese government we were siding with lost the civil war to Mao. That old Chinese Republic ended up only being able to maintain control of Taiwan, where they still hold sway today. We still have a mutual defense treaty with Taiwan.

Chennault was a staunch anti-communist. His second wife who was Chinese spent her life in support of Taiwan.
Besides the Air Force ROTC Detachment there really should be something larger honoring him at LSU.
But now the Board of Supervisors is filled with Communists.
That is what is "hard to believe ...... where we are now"

If Truman had any balls left after August 1945, we would have backed Chiang much harder and we might have a big ole, East Asian Trump running things in China instead of a dyed in the wool, hardcore, merciless Marxist mass murderer.

It would have been tough for us to beat Mao with the Russians having taken Manchuria.

It would have not been tough to defeat them and the Chinese then. They didn’t know how many A bomb laden Ebola Gays we had parked on the runways in East Asia. (Actually 1.) Truman was touted as a poker player. He sat out of the Asia hand in ‘47 and folded his cards in ‘51.

My wife’s paternal grandfather was a Flying Tiger. They have a whole bunch of memorabilia including a Flying Tiger flag signed by all of the commanders and a leather bombers jacket given to him by Chennault. Chennault must have been a small guy, the jacket is tiny. Very cool stuff.

We would have ended up at war with the USSR. They supported Mao during the Chinese Civil War and during the early part of his reign. Then they realized he was too insane for even the Soviet Communists and cut ties.

There is also Flying Tiger brewery in Monroe. Grandson of Gen Chennault runs it.
ULM mascot is the Warhawk. Honors Gen Chennault and the P40 Warhawk flown by Flying Tigers.
