Sounds like it really has developed into a mental hang-up. As someone stated earlier, his bad habit has become part of his pre-shot routine. It’s in his head now. He won’t improve his game hitting improved lies every shot.

I can understand if someone plays a couple times a year and is just enjoying a round with friends or family, but a group regular has an obligation to his partners to play by the rules, even if no money is involved.

I agree.

And what is funny, he is absolutely magic in a bunker, his get up and down rate is amazing and he never messes with the ball in the bunker.
