Personally, I would not install hardwood flooring with dogs in the house.
My brother-in-law had all his floors refinished a couple years ago, almost 1800 sq. ft. worth of old heart pine flooring.
He has a 70 lb. dog and 2 of his grown sons bring their dogs over when they visit for a total of 5 dogs in the house, and not one of them under 50 lbs. They've scratched the crap out of the floors

Going with LVP in my new build. I have had engineered hardwood in a previous house and it scratches very easily.
