From the grainy footage it doesn't look like the quickest knot you could tie though.

He never saw the actual "noose"
Someone showed him a picture of the pull down rope..
At that time all he had to say was..."man please..that's not a noose, thats the garage door pull down rope"

It’s a bowline knot. It has ancient origins. It’s probably the most common knot amongst mariners. It can be tied and untied very quickly and does not slip. I have seen people tie them with one hand.
