Just found out, while listening to a little TWiT..

I don't think it's so much the 'master' part as it is 'slave' and the master/slave relationship.

It sounds like the ZFS change to 'dependent' or 'dependency' is more accurate and descriptive for its use, but in other cases I can see master/minion being more appropriate than master/slave.
