Telescope Innovations Files Game-Changing Provisional Patent To Purify Battery Materials
Standard's R&D friends at Telescope seem to have found a more efficient (cheaper) way to get to lithium carbonate.
"[filed a patent for] a disruptive new technique to purify lithium carbonate, a critical mineral building block for lithium ion battery production and particularly for low-cost LFP battery chemistries."
"The current provisional application describes a single-step process that produces battery-grade, >99.9% lithium carbonate from crude material of 20-95% purity. This technology can dramatically reduce the requirement for pre-processing of crude lithium brine feeds, which conventionally accounts for up to 80% of refinement costs."
"The Company aims to deploy its intellectual property through partnership and licensing models in the battery materials industry, leveraging its established and productive relationships with Standard Lithium Ltd., Natural Resources Canada, and Canada’s Mining Innovation Commercialization Accelerator, among others."
Maybe someone with a grasp of the chemistry can chime in, but this seems like a potential big deal?
Per DFS, opex per ton at Phase 1A:
Electrical Power and Infrastructure 950
Reagents and Consumables 2,880
Maintenance and External Services 610
Workforce 1,930
Insurance 340
Miscellaneous Costs 100
Total Operating Cost 6,810
Sustaining Capital Expenditures [6] 580
All-in Operating Cost 7,390
How much might the Reagents and Consumables be reduced by such a breakthrough?
Could help Phase 1A. Probably won't help SWA since it is slated to produce lithium hydroxide instead of lithium carbonate. Don't think we know the plan yet for East Tx.

The way I understand the relationship - Standard Lithium pays Telescope Innovations for Contract Research, but the IP belongs to Telescope Innovations and SLI will have only non-exclusive rights to the IP. I assume SLI will have to pay Telescope Innovations some fee for using the IP?
I hope SLI has some sort of advantage, given they paid for the contract research and Mintak and Robinson sit on the BOD of Telescope.
