We did this last night with somebody. For home defense Remington 870 tac 14 and any Glock 9mm but I’d say Glock 26 personally.

whatever he is comfortable with. i think he will like simplicity and dependability of glocks. lightweight.plenty rounds. he should have no issue handling a Ar or AK or ruger rifle later. piece of cake.

19 or 19x you want capacity, full grip, and 4.5 inch barrel. I knock glock pretty hard because of the fanbios talking up a 500.00 pistol as awesome then put 1500.00 worth of upgrades to get them to run but they are solid starter pistols. Styer m9, Sig 320, Walter PPQ, HK VP9, Beretta APX, FN 509, are all solid options but Glock has the best after market support. Smith M&P is too hit or miss on QA stuff for me but most would include them.
