I prefer 16 linemen.

When has LSU ever had 16 Scholarship OL?
I admit some years I don't pay as much attention. It must have been one of those years.
I truly do not remember seeing a 3 deep depth chart that did not have the same players in more than one position.
Most years there is only one backup Tackle and guard that will play when the game is in doubt. And that would be only in the case of injury.
Then again I think the NFL is insane for only dressing 7 or 8 OL for each game.
I remember one year when Auburn lost 3 or 4 Centers to injury. Ponder what our offense would look like with the 4th or 5th Center in the game.

I look at it as a development approach.

Look at Georgia. Mind you, we beat that tail in seccg. However, they have five stars oline for days.

It’s not about how many are dressing out for one game. It’s focusing on two things:

1. Injuries during the season To where you aren’t down to just ten OL by game 10.

2. Developing these players to where you don’t have to rely on 5 stars to come in and compete right away.Or Better said: getting them ready For next year while in line. ****

****. I know, duh. But having to rely on Kardell to start would have been a bad thing. Instead we had players who were juniors and sophomores that were ready to go. Kardell got injured anyway.

These players need time to get physically mature and get immersed in the offense/play book.

It’s really about development and yes, you can process some that aren’t making it better from 16 than 13.

Oline is too important to get thin at.

This really beckons the question that I hs e asked before, what is the proper par level for each position with 85 scholarships?

This is wrong. But you can play with this for a while.

We lost two of those centers in one game and put a true freshman on the field. Lost his redshirt year in the process.
