My daughter bought a a Jeep Sahara. They had some good incentives like employee pricing, low interest and a “hero’s discount” for being a nurse. I told her to wait a month or two but she succumbed to the new car fever.

something don’t add up. They haven’t made a Sahara since 2018.

I would argue that buying a new car for a teen (who, in all likeness, will get in a wreck in the first two years of driving) is better than buying the $5k beater.

When you wreck a $5k beater, you’re only option is to drive it wrecked, pay to get it fixed or let the insurance company total it and take the ACV minus your deductible. Also, your paying for mechanical repairs and maintenance to keep the beater on the road.

A new car, when wrecked, won’t total in a minor collision and mechanical repairs are covered under warranty. I think Kia (and some other car companies) still has 100k mile factory warranties. Some dealers are offering free oil changes too.
