When I was young (under 10) I think CBS used to show it every year (with intermission and everything) and my mother would make us suffer through it. I hated it and Sound of Music because of forced watching.

Bought it on Blue Ray once it became clear it was headed to Song of the South blacklisting. Watched it and came away with a few impressions:

1) Scarlett O'Hara is probably the greatest villain in cinema history

2) Rhett Butler was a great character

3) I can definitely see how people would think it's racist as frick

I wouldn't classify Scarlett as a villain. In fact I consider her the ultimate survivor that is your go-to person in a crisis.

Granted, before the war in the days of the Old South Scarlett was a vain love sick kid who spent a great deal of her life pining for the affections of Ashley Wilkes. We find out what Scarlett really is made of when the war happens and she loses everything. She is willing to do the unthinkable to survive.

I find her an amazing character.
