Who else should they sue? The guy owned the plane. He may not be personally liable, or he could have been negligent in not having it serviced at required intervals. Maybe he made a [poor choice of pilots for reasons he knew beforehand and ignored.

This same guy may have filed a lawsuit of his own against some party involved in the process.

The case will play out and the investigations will establish the extent of responsibility that any defendant may have in the matter, ad likely the matter will be settled prior to litigation unless there is significant disagreements between the alleged tort feasors.

This whole thing is a good reason not to invite people on your plane.
