I understand but why would this be significantly more effective the the convalescent plasma? That plasma has the most specific antibodies you can find.

Have they tested this new antibody yet?

The plasma does not necessarily provide the most effective antibodies in high enough numbers that inhibit the coronavirus. Creating a specific cocktail of antibodies in high enough doses can. If it works, you have injectable immunity.

Then, working with collaboration partners at the University of Texas Medical Branch, which has access to the live virus, they were able to screen the dozen antibodies for the most promising ones.

“We’re actually so impressed with the data,” Ji said. “One of the antibodies is so powerful that at a very low concentration it is able to 100% completely prevent infection or inhibit the infection. In our studies, not even one virus escaped from the antibody.”

That was STI-1499. Currently, Sorrento believes STI-1499 will be the first antibody in the three-antibody cocktail, COVI-SHIELD, which it is developing with Mount Sinai. Additionally, because of its high potency, it plans to develop the antibody as a stand-alone therapy, COVI-GUARD.

A key question. Another I have stems from quote below.

quote:

"As soon as it is infused, that patient is now immune to the disease," Dr. Brunswick said to Fox News. "For the length of time, the antibody is in that system. So, if we were approved [by the FDA] today, everyone who gets that antibody can go back to work and have no fear of catching COVID-19."

How long does it stay in body? Is it one stop shot? will it convey immunity for any length of time? I am guessing days to maybe weeks. Here is a reference for any other nerds that may be out there.
