He is a proficient actor and singer, but he made sure to cast some of the most talented actors and singers on Broadway around himself. In many cases, he literally wrote the parts to their strengths such that it has been difficult to cast their replacements (Leslie Odom Jr, Daveed Diggs).
PBS has a documentary covering his creation of it that I strongly recommend.

That makes sense then. Kudos to him for not undercasting to make himself look better during the performance.

Meh, he was stale during emotional scenes and has terrible low-note range. I mean he did ok, but it makes me think there could’ve been someone else out there that could’ve played Hamilton much better.
I mean hell, the guy playing George Washington ended his solo number fighting back tears because his performance was incredibly emotional. I never once saw that from LMR
