I remember a would be burglar being thwarted by two home owners in my neighbor when I was in high school. That told him to lie down near ditch until authorities arrived while pointing gun at him.
Had the burglar attacked he would have been shot.
Yes they ran 3 houses down to confront him.

And if they shot him, they would have had some legal issues. Since they didn’t shoot him, no legal issue.
