As universal masking can contribute to dampening the spread of COVID, masks could be highly related to re-opening society. See: a half dozen Asian countries. You're correct that there are other ways to skin the cat and if we had a strategy we could choose one of those other ways. That all said, I still don't understand the hostility to universal masking since at worst it contributes to getting back to some semblance of normalcy. At worst it does that.
