Unless family and local ties are really important to you, I would take the Silicon Valley job. You’re making 130K base salary.

Which is the equivalent of making 48k in Lafayette. He's single and out of work and that is a beautiful area though.

In Silicon Valley, that's what the guy that drives the shuttle bus makes.

ETA: CSB inbound. I have a friend who moved out there a couple of years ago. His rent was something like $1400 a month. I went out there to visit and his "apartment" was one room that was literally big enough for a futon, a TV, and one closet. The kitchenesque area had a half-sized fridge, a two burner stove, a sink, one cabinet, and a two chair table. The bathroom was so narrow that you had to manspread to be able to get your knees to fit so you could take a shite, a tiny little airplane sink, and a shower that wished it was as big as the shower in an RV. Also, the ceilings were like 6.5 - 7 feet. It was fricking miserable and claustrophobic. Less than 300 square feet. We're talking tiny house sized. That wasn't even anywhere near Silicon Valley. That was San Rafael. The price per square foot only goes up the further South you go from there.

But, he had gotten his dream job and moved out there to pursue it, so good for him. Small living ain't for me, though.
