Contract for hiring vendors

Do any of y’all have a contract or template that you use when hiring a contractor to do work on your home?
Guy I hired to re-do our deck walked off the job today. Now I have to hire another guy to finish it and I’d like some sort of contract that I can have them sign that is more binding than the man’s handshake.

Unless you use a company, you are going to have a hard time enforcing any "contract" you get someone to sign off the street. The best leverage you can give yourself I have found is to withhold payment until the work is finished. At least if someone walks off your job you can hire a replacement.
