New map: here is the last time each state had a presidential result within five points. The longest record (excluding DC) is Kansas, which had a close race between McKinley and Jennings Bryan in 1896, followed by Nebraska in 1908 then 1912 Taft in Utah 4.8% over Wilson.

What kind of no-order-arse color code is that?

Iowa
2016 Trump wins by 9.5% (15% change from 2012)

Democrats had won 5/6 elections before 2016

Bush won by under 1% in 2004 (Just over 10,000 votes)

Virginia

Republicans dominated Virginia between 1968 until 2008. Obama’s victory was historic and a changing of the tides in Virginia politics.

Trump outperformed Bush, Romney and McCain in overall vote total with 1,769,000 million but only reached 44.4% of the vote. Compare to 2004 and Trumps vote total would have given him 55% of the vote. In 2004 Bush won with 1,716,000 53% of vote.

Raw votes in Northern Virginia make the state a long shot in 2020
Obama > 1,950,000 in both 2008 and 2012 was 52.6 and 51.3 respectively.
Hillary was under 1,950,000 but still got 49%

That is interesting. Didn't realize the southeast was so on the fence with Reagan's first term.

You would think Clinton vs Bush those southern states would of been very competitive but they all broke Democrat and Republican by over 5% except Louisiana.
