Too young to remember the murders, but was in jr. high school when the TV movie Helter Skelter came out. The look in the eyes of the actor playing Charles Manson freaked me out. Stare like a cobra's.

Can not imagine the effect the real murderer would have had on a room. Vincent Bugliosi's book describes Manson and his followers scratching crosses in blood on their foreheads for the trial to f- with the jury.
Charlie's crazy ramblings in interviews were creepily hypnotic. Maybe similar to how Hitler's personality pulled followers in.
Dude should have been dispatched like a rabid dog.
FWIW finding out that the Supreme Court issued a ruling that overturned Manson's (among many others) death sentence went a long way to remove any idealism about liberalism for me.

I’ve read all about that case. Wasn’t close to being born yet. But I don’t buy Bugliosis Hester Skelter story at all. It’s a case of Charlie trying to get his buddy out of jail (Bobby Beausolei) by creating a copy cat murder. And it also gave him the opportunity to get even with the (institution) of the music industry. Terry Melcher who wouldn’t sign him to a record deal used to live in the Tate house. So he could get revenge and free his buddy he thought. Crazy part is between all 3 murder scenes, the police didn’t see a pattern, even with the writing on the walls of all 3 locations. If that dumbass girl wouldn’t have talked to her cell mate they may have disappeared into the desert forever. Heater Skelter was just a way to put them all on trial and make it stick.
