Something I haven't seen brought up. The captain sent out the letter to 30 people. It seems like this was his best way to get it out to the press, since the larger the number, the harder it is to prove who actually provided it to the press. On face value, and knowing how intelligent a person has to be to get command of an aircraft carrier, this wasn't just a fluke. I can imagine he is getting ready for a polygraph right now.

Yeah. The idea that a AC commander doesn't have a secure way to transmit a letter about force readiness to his chain-of-command is... silly.

He deserves a discharge, not just a duty reassignment.
