Any advice on open water swims around baton rouge?
Im new to the triathlon thing, so just looking for some input. I see that tri Cajuns in Lafayette has some organized swims but I don't know anyone in the group, or the sport for that matter.
Thanks!

Are you a good swimmer? I got into tris in the early 2000’s. Having a coach for swimming to help with technique was worth it. Slowtwitch.com is a great tri forum if you aren’t already familiar with it.

Went for some laps today... I have some work to do for sure.
I'll take a look.
Thanks!

False river is the best spot near baton rouge to swim in open water. For Baton Rouge options, I use to do open water swims in a lake located next to Damon dr. Haven't done that in like 7 years though so not sure what the condition of the lake is now

There is a group on Facebook called False River Paddle Club (I think) that puts together open water swims from time to time. I would check that out and see if you can make one when they do it. They have paddle support for those who join, and I would not go do it on your own under any circumstance.

I was hesitant to say this in the previous post but decided to anyway. Also check out total immersion. Some people hate it, some people love it (competitive people tend to hate it). It helped to teach me how to swim long. Just google it and you will find videos, forums, the book etc.

I actually checked it out this weekend. Tim ferris had a quick 5 minute talk on it. He said he was able to swim over a kilometer in a couple of weeks.
I'm not looking to be the fastest out of the water, just not drown.
Appreciate it!
