Any recommendations on where to do some primitive camping?

Your local national forest now that hunting season is closed.
Most all of them allow boondocking for up to 2 weeks

Eagle Rock Loop in SW Arkansas
Mainly for backpacking, but plenty of places to park and hike in a short distance.
The Guthook app trail has camping locations marked.

Fausse point does as well. Actually stayed at one years ago for 3 nights. Didn’t hike the trail to it though, took the boat lol.

Do you know if you need to book anything, or do you just show up?

I'm in Lafayette, so preferably near here, but I am willing to travel.

I tent camped at Indian Creek one time and it was pretty cool. Really want to get back into this since I have two boys around 10 years old.
So I second the OPs question.

+1 for ERL, only 6.5 hours from BR
Download an online trail map, some of the trails aren't marked well due to a flood last year that did some damage to trail

I've actually stayed in that exact spot quite a few times. Love that place. But the wife gets tired of going to the same places over and over again, so I'm looking for other options

Looking at Chicot’s website it says they have 6 “ backcountry” sites that are available on a first come first serve basis. $9 a night. I guess these are the ones I saw. I didn’t stay in one just saw them during a hike.

It's not that primitive but I stayed at lake valentine recently. It was pretty nice for 10 bucks
