Border patrol stops everyone randomly looking for illegals.

For a year my wife and I lived near El Paso. We are white and we got pulled over and checked by BP about once a month.

They've got a little extra leeway 100 miles in from the border per federal regulations.

Are you talking about the checkpoints on I10 west of Cruces, I25 north of Cruces, US70 between Cruces and Alamo, US54 between El Paso and Alamo, US62 east of El Paso, and I10 east of El Paso?

Those are standard checkpoints where (nearly) every vehicle is stopped and asked to state their citizenship.

There is a separate lane for trucks and buses, where BPs board the bus and ask the same thing they ask the passenger cars.

Or are you saying that you and your wife would drive NM9, TX20, or some other random road next to the border and BP would pull you over and check ID once a month?

I have been stopped 4 times near the border (probably 1000+ miles driven over a decade on border highways) and each time it was because of suspicious driving or dust covering my car and license plate.
