I don't think any of it has to necessarily do with application to commercial vehicles.
I think its virtue signaling and short sighted. Taking Honda out of the limelight of the biggest motorsport world wide has to have negative impacts on marketing.

I don’t believe the Japanese would virtue signal. That’s a uniquely western problem.
