Based on reddit it seems like the argument for DAS being legal is that it is not a change to the suspension, but rather a steering input no different than turning the wheel.

Exactly. It isn't powered either. It is direct input from the driver.

No one will do a direct challenge until after qualifying week 1. There will be a lot of questions asked to clarify before then.

Not sure how Merc passed all the preseason tests with steering column and crash test if the FIA disagreed.

Even moreso it seems the FIA has known for a while about what Mercedes was doing and they already bought off on the system.
