The only justification you have right now for an 8 team field is it would allow all of the conference champs in.

Having said that, every year, at least one of the playoff games is a total blowout. Expanding to 8 would just be a charade. Lets find 4 good teams before we worry about 8.

2015:
Oregon 59
FSU 20

2016:
Alabama 38
Michigan State 0

2017:
Alabama 24
Washington 7

Clemson 31
Ohio State 0

2018:
Alabama 24
Clemson 6

2019:
Clemson 30
ND 3

2020:
LSU 63
Oklahoma 28

I’d like to see a 6 team playoff with the top 2 seeds getting a bye, but also requiring you to play in your conference title game to be eligible for the bye week.

Keeps emphasis on the regular season, eliminates unearned disadvantages for playing in a conference title, adds more revenue, gives the flexibility so you’ll always have enough spots for the teams that deserve it, while eliminating the undeserving ones before the semi final

Higher seed hosts at their stadium.

Or add in two more bowls and eliminate the rotation they currently have for the big bowl games

Unrealistic until there are significantly more spots than conferences. Not gonna happen.

By your standard fcs shouldn't have a playoff at all. Just hand the title to NDST.
It's about fanbases and the money they spend. More fans involved means more money for everyone involved. Reason #1 why the playoff will eventually be expanded. Fans are more apt to travel, therefore spend,if something of value is to be gained by their team. Meaningless bowl games are not reason enough for major programs and their fans. Lots of times the players don't even care about them.
