That puts the fault on Milazzo for throwing the ball.
I also don't remember the exact situation, or who was batting. Do we know for certain it wouldn't have been Doughty who was supposed to cover?
Given what we know about Milazzo (big arm) and Doughty (still getting accustomed to the speed of defense at this level), it's entirely possible that either Milazzo threw on his own because he saw an opportunity or that Doughty didn't cover when he was supposed to.
ETA: I hesitate to "blame" Milazzo if he just threw it because he thought he could get the guy. He's kind of like a point guard that every other guy on the floor needs to be aware that they could get the ball at anytime. (I don't want to compare him to a guy like Yadi, but that's what it's like with him)

So why is Hughes being charged with the mental error, which warrants a benching? That's what I'm trying to get at. I think it's just a reason to pile on Hughes, so it's being done.
All that being said, I'm really hoping the experiment works and Hughes doesn't have to start another game at SS at LSU again. That would be wonderful. I don't see it being able to happen, but it will be great if it does.
