I agree, but he had mental errors, which are bench worthy. Fairly or unfairly, he's saddled with the expectations of being a coach's kid. That means fewer mental errors than the average player and more hustle than the average player.

Without being at the games, I can't assess hustle. But he needs to be the headiest player on the field if he wants to stay on the field.

I do think he showed more confidence at the plate and anecdotally it seemed like he didn't swing and miss as much. But he still has his limitations there because he doesn't hit the ball hard enough to get base hits consistently when he does make decent contact (for him).

It should not be unsaid how good a job he did getting runners across home in game 2.

I'm anti-bashing, and I feel Hughes gets more bashing than he really deserves. I hope this is a pretty objective view of him.
