for me it was always an ego and power play by MLB because Rose never bet against the team, so he had to always give it his best...not to justify, but the punishment seems harsh

which makes no sense. Its time for baseball to realize that Pete has gotten a far harsher treatment than about anyone else.

heck even the black sox got a worse treatment. Match fixing vs Match fixing by cheating... one is worse but not by the margin that baseball ruled upon
