Basketball Hangover Game Passed...Now Go Kick Some...

As most are likely aware (and probably saw coming), last night's performance was clearly a hangover effect of playing a mediocre team after losing a huge bounce back game that they dominated nearly the whole time. But I for one am proud of them for finding the grit to come back and win a tight one so as not to completely derail things.
Now they have the opportunity to go to Bama on Saturday to get a quality road win and season sweep against a team that has been struggling of late, plays AU tonight (although I hope Bama can pull another miracle there), and lost one of its best all around players during our last game with them. I'm also hoping that Manning will be healthy enough to possibly get a few minutes of playing time just to get him back in the swing of things prior to next week.
Do all of that and the ship will be back on course, full steam ahead, with a huge showdown against Kentucky in the PMAC next week!
Overall, I believe LSU needs to win at least 4 of their remaining games (putting them at 22-9, 13-5) to wrap up a bid for the tournament without needing any SEC tournament help. Obviously I want them to do better than that and certainly believe they are capable of better and winning the SEC; it's just more of a baseline expectation.
ETA: I forgot it was actually during our game that Herb Jones broke his wrist and had to have surgery. They are not expecting him back till next week at the earliest.

The defense in the second half was pretty good for this team, if they would just play like that consistently they can be a really good team.
That's the issue with this team, they are close to being really good they just haven't gotten over the hump yet.

Agreed. Defense was not elite in 2nd half, but definitely solid. They were playing with more energy and more of an aggressive mentality that they need to keep up. They've played like that before, but generally it has been in the 1st half and then they slack up in the 2nd. Last night was reversed.
Wade said after the game that they adjusted at halftime and told the players to take the fight to them on defense and play with a more aggressive mentality of tight on-ball and off-ball defense to make Mizzou more uncomfortable, pushing them out further past the 3 pt. line to run their offense. It definitely worked.
If they can become consistent and hold teams to just around 70 or less, they will be in a great position to win every game.

I'm sure the coaching staff would never accept this excuse, but if there was going to be a let down game, in terms of energy, last night was it. The last 6 days have been a grind.
LSU played the late game at Vandy. One that saw both teams essentially running up and down the court all game with very little half-court play. Then, because of weather, LSU didn't get back to BR until 3:00 am. They then had to turn around an prepare, in essentially one day, to travel to Auburn and play an 11:00 am tip. Even though they lost, Wade was right in that LSU played their asses off that game. The execution could be questioned (particularly on defense) but not the effort. After that, they had to prepare to play once again two days later vs. Mizzou.
Luckily, that was the last Wed-Sat-Tues string of the season. Those are tough as is. But when two of the games are on the road they are even tougher.
Here's to hoping they can get a little more rest than usual this week simply because they have played Bama once already and know what to expect. They are going to need it to play at Bama's pace. And maybe, just maybe, we can see a repeat of the first game where LSU did defend well because they KNEW Bama wants to shoot a ton of 3's. Leaving them uncontested like they did vs. AU (second half), Vandy and Mizzou was not an option vs. Bama.

I get the sense that our lack of depth is a factor why we can't maintain the type of consistent defensive effort we need to maintain. We've had lengthy stretches where we played outstanding defense in a given game, but we never seem to be able to maintain it. I understand that basketball is a game of runs, but it is a glaring issue.
To me the issue is either depth or that there is some kind of disconnect between what Wade is teaching and what the players are learning.

Foul trouble with Days and Williams is also an issue

Definitely agreed. That was something I thought about last night that this was there 3rd game in 6 days, with a lot of traveling in between. That’s pretty brutal.
I was bitching about it last week and called out SEC scheduling on Twitter about caring for player safety, but having LSU play the late game on the road on a Wednesday and then turn around and travel again to play the early game on a Saturday. Vandy should have been a Tuesday game.
