If you go back to 1976 or 1978 there was a big ferry accident at LaPlace that killed about 80 people on the River when a ship clipped the ferry. Gramercy and Boggs were built to avoid that ever happening again.

You might be thinking of the accident in 1976 at Luling/Destrehan. 78 people were killed. The accident was right next to where the Hale Boggs Bridge is today.
