It is possible, but you won't do it while working in 4 years, at least at LSU.
The ME dept at LSU is notorious for weeding out as many people as they feel need be.
Statics and Thermo were the big classes to get past in 2000s anyway.
I still remember the first thermo test's average score was in the 30's

Still holds true today. Do not want to scare the OP but as far as LSU goes, I know of people who studied day and night for those classes and barely passed. Very smart guys too. Just time consuming to learn and practice that material.
