small planes and helicopters are death traps.
flying commercial is extremely safe because airlines don't want to be liable for hundreds of deaths, so they put their planes and pilots through the wringer to make sure that if an accident happens, it was mostly unavoidable.
this is some random dude (with training) flying a luxury helicopter in dense fog.

Small planes shouldn't be compared to rotory wing aircraft. If small planes were as dangerous as helicopters, there wouldn't be many people interested enough in flying to get a commercial rating.
