I guess we have to agree to disagree here. I see the EU as an organization where non elected bureaucrats impose their political policies over traditional democratic governments. I think the EU is every bit as big of a threat to democracy as China is.

The majority of the worlds population does not nor has lived in democracies and we get along just fine, we are at the top of the pile and need stability to keep us there more than anything, that is what Pax Americana is all about.
Trying to force democracy down others throat will always turn out badly for us, see Iraq, Vietnam, Korea etc, they will do it or not on their terms.
