They aren’t worth it, and fortunate enough for them, they’ll likely have a cake walk right back to the playoffs.

The AAC is a better conference than the ACC. Next time someone from that conference goes unbeaten, the committee has to give them serious consideration.

Clemson’s best win pre-playoffs was a team with 5 losses. No other ACC team finished ranked in the AP poll. No ACC team won 10 games or lost less than 5 except Clemson.

The American had 5 teams with 10+ wins, including two that were 10-3, one 11-2, one 11-3 and one 12-2.

Four of those teams were ranked in the final polls, with another receiving votes in both AP and Coaches poll.

Top-to-bottom, the American is stronger than the ACC. If teams from both conferences are unbeaten at season’s end, they should have a play-in game to determine the 4-seed.

Side-note, the Mountain West had four teams with 10-12 wins (two 10, one 11 and one 12). The Mountain West has two representatives in the final polls, while two others received votes.

That’s one G5 conference that’s objectively stronger than the ACC and another that has a pretty strong argument.

Maybe Clemson can join the American so their fans can enjoy more than 2 or 3 real games a year, and so they’d have a legit playoff resume if unbeaten.
