Piggybacking on this thread, has anyone done a multi city trip by train in the PNW? Say Portland and Seattle both. Is it a hassle or a worthwhile experience with Amtrak?

Yes, Cascades train is consistently rated as one of the best short train rides in the country. Portland to Seattle and Seattle to Vancouver are both about 4 hour trips on the train, and sometimes faster than driving depending on the time of day. Both are very scenic, weather permitting. Portland and Seattle have downtown stations, Vancouver station isn't exactly downtown, but connects to their translink which has probably the best rail/subway system in North America. Would highly recommend.
