This. Remember when we were having trouble turning 4-3 DTs into 3-4 NTs and (lesser extent) DEs? We would have the same problem turning 350 lb. 3-4 NTs into 4-3 DTs. Perhaps the greater concern is turning 3-4 DEs or OLBs into 4-3 DEs.

It takes different personnel and it’s a completely different style of play from what our guys have been taught all this time under Aranda. I also don’t think we have enough experienced DL depth to just up and switch to a 4-3. I will say that a lot of the freshmen we have coming in could very well play in a 4-3 defense. But how many freshmen do you want in your DL rotation?

3-4 is built to stop the spread offense. We may go to more simulated 4-man fronts but I would be surprised if we went straight to a base 4-3 in one year.
