I have gone to China regularly for work for the last 15 years and have gotten to know some of the factory owners and business people fairly well. Even the richest of them are envious of the size of the average American home and amazed at the size of some of the nice 4-6000 sq ft homes.

Just the fact that we can own property is a big deal for them. They come to the USA often and some have been to my home and ohh and ahh over the fact that I have a 2 acre lot. I invited some to come out to our hunting camp in the Delta and shoot AR 15’s and you would have thought they were about to embark on a criminal enterprise. I could tell they were totally freaked out about the idea and were worried their government might find out.

Your post reminds me of a Neal Boortz story of his hosting a Soviet professor and his wife. It was in the 80s and Neal lived in Atlanta, Ga.
The Russian couple went to a Super Market for groceries with Neal. When they walked in they couldn't believe the amount of food displayed in all the departments.

Russian guy: 'This place must be for the govt leaders.'
Neal:'No, this is for everyone.'
The Russian guy's wife started to cry.
