I think that sitting for three years and learning behind the Transfer brought in for when he definitely was not ready, contributing as the primary back up, and keeping a good attitude about it all, means that he has earned the opportunity to start. This all assumes the coaches have not seen something that makes them think he just isn’t starting quality. Besides that, I think that’s what people (including me) mean by, “he’s earned it.” If you mean he has to start and win games to earn the “starting” job, that’s kind of cart before the horse.

You recruit multiple freshman to develop and compete but bringing in a Transfer usually means it’s to start at QB (or provide depth; and it’s known that he’d be the backup). The transfers (good ones) are usually transferring to start, not compete, agree or not.

I agree, it’s better for the program to bring in top talent to compete. And anything is possible once they are on the field. But, these guys leave their program to start somewhere else.

So, are you saying that if the staff saw a transfer available that it thought gave LSU a better chance of winning, it should pass on said transfer because Brennan "sat for 3 years and learned" and "because Brennan is starting quality"?

I couldn't disagree with you more.

So, are you saying

No, that’s not what I’m saying. My statement is with consideration to the actual options we’ve been discussing on the board.

I am saying the only reason to bring in a Transfer QB is to start; hypothetically someone who gives LSU a better chance of winning, as you said. I am saying that I don’t think that hypothetical currently exists and, without that expectation as we had with Burrow, it doesn’t make sense to spend a scholly on another potential backup QB.

Details for discussion, if interested...
I said, “This assumes the coaches ‘have not seen something that makes them think he isn’t starting quality’.” “Starting quality” implying that he is capable of leading LSU to a Championship...(LSU starting quality, not like ULM starting quality).

In our limited fan insight, It appears the coaches are confident in Brennan’s ability. I do not believe taking a QB Transfer to “compete” for a starting job makes sense (this year). I do not think it can be objectively stated (by a fan) that any of the current Transfer QBs will be better than Brennan next year.

And, since (I think) Brennan has earned the opportunity to be the starting LSU Mighty Fighting Tiger QB, we don’t need a Transfer. Ideally, we could bring in several quality QBs as insurance, but we don’t have the scholarships for that (or even one, IMO).

And, yes, I think spending 3 years learning and developing and showing he is capable (again, assuming he has shown in practice that he is capable of being a quality starter) means that he has earned the opportunity to start. And if CEO also sees him as the starter for 2020 (which is what I think), I don’t think they would or should bring in a Transfer.

BUT - to your point, if there is a QB who we know is better than Brennan (and we’re okay with Brennan transferring out himself) absolutely bring him in and let’s geaux win a Ship. If Trevor Lawrence wants to transfer, yes, take him. If it’s any of these other guys who are currently actual options, no, I don’t see how it makes sense.
