Disney is stupid expensive.
A regular normal family trip there is 7-9k
The prices at Disney are spiking upwards, plus, once your kid hits age 10, they are considered an adult when it comes to pricing.
We went in 2017 for 7 nights over thanksgiving week, 2 adults, 2 kids, stay at Pop Century, cost was $3,200.
Just booked a trip for 2020, 5 nights over Thanksgiving break, now have 3 adults and 1 kid, cost is $3,500.
So two less days, one child now an "adult" and the cost is $300 more.
We will probably spend another $1500 in meals and travel costs and other spending. So $5,000 for 5 days.
There are indeed a lot of other things we can do for $1,000 a day. That's why I've resisted my wife's desires to buy into DVC, and we are only taking a big trip there as a family, once every 3 years. We still take a weekend trip there once a year.

I mean, I wouldn't judge anyone for going every year, but I do personally think it's a gigantic waste of money and time. There are countless cruises, theme parks, state parks, beaches, monuments, tours, etc... Why go to the same exact park every year, see the same old stuff while standing in the same old lines? For me that's a "once every 10 years or so" type of vacation. But hey, to each their own.
