please do tell me why the crappy movement in a rolex is so special? All the used jewelry shops have countless rolexes sitting around, go in there and ask for something like a patek nautilus and nobody has one.

Sorry if you're going to pay big money its all about the movement.

you don't wear a Rolex to tell time, you wear one to remind the peasants that they are peasants

Rolex keeps having a worldwide parts shortage and the reason is because they are crappy watches that break all the time.

Buy an Apple Watch for the price of a Rolex Maintenace fee and live happy.

Anyone can get a new 5711 Nautilus at any time just be willing to pay the price, I will sell you mine or my Nautilus 5980 for the right price.

As for Rolex sitting around go try to buy a Kermit, Batman, Ceramic SS Daytona or most any SS oyster for retail.

As for the crappy movement, the basic 3 hand 3255 is arguably the best daily wear automatic movement being made, with maybe one or two other analogs. Outside the Patek Seal, they have the tightest accuracy standard of any mechanical watches arguably they are "tied" with the Omega METAS standard. On my Timegrapher from the factory, they are very much the equal or better of the movements I own that cost far more. Admittedly they don't have the finissage of Haute Horlogerie pieces but the precision of the machining in the movement is as high or higher than most anything out there.

But lets just move to a higher authority. I assume you know who Roger Smith is. For those that do not he is arguably the greatest living watchmaker and his watches are some of the finest mechanical movements in the world and he learned under George Daniels. What does Roger wear around daily? A Rolex EXP I.

If you are interested in his comments about this movement you think is crappy go to 10:30 in the video on this page:
