It’s the postal abbreviation for the state; so why would it not be an accepted abbreviation?

I get that people refer to Los Angeles as “LA;” but it doesn’t make it any less of an abbreviation for the state.

Los Angeles is L.A. and Louisiana is LA in text. Now in speech, if someone says “LA”, I always think of Los Angeles because no one says “LA” for Louisiana, “TN” for Tennessee, etc.

It's not.

That would be "La"
